| Show V Frederick Samuel Au Auerbach h SAMUEL AUERBACH as his I FREDERICK i JT father was before him was a state builder His wholly wholly une unexpected ted death at his is home Saturday Saturday Sat Sat- t morning was a shock to this community He was an exemplary citizen interested in the community's growth and nd progress and taking an active but unostentatious part in enterprises for fora a its advancement He had traveled widely and in his travels his thoughts turned to his native city Many desirable e features of living liying which he observed ob ob- ob- ob served abroad broad moved him to advocate their adoption here He was a devotee and patron of the arts and this interest furthered the enrichment enrichment enrich enrich- ment merit of c culture in Salt Lake ake City He e was a generous contributor to established charities but buthis buthis buthis his c compassion reached far beyond these in benefactions privately tely bestowed to those i in 1 want and to those needing comfort and friendship His was a gentle soul His outlook upon life found its richest expression in his home where in a beautiful ul companionship he and Mrs Fannie Fox Auerbach had fashioned a place of contentment contentment content content- ment of charm and warm hospitality Both were vere socially prominent and their Military way home was a favorite gathering place for their many fr friends ends Loyal and patriotic during the World war Mr Auerbach joined the United States navy He served honorably and faithfully until its termination He saw much service afloat being stationed at Brest France the larger part of the time He was a longtime and active member of rican Legion Samuel H. H Auerbach father of f Frederick S. S and Herbert S. S Auerbach was an esteemed and respected member of the community He with his two brothers Frederick and Theodore founded the Auerbach mercantile interests here herein herein herein in pioneer days Samuel H. H Auerbach's sons succeeded succeeded succeeded suc suc- to the direction of the interests expanded them and ventured into numerous other fields It is to be doubted if there is any other otner large and and flourishing concern in the state stat that has been for forso forso forso so so long in the hands of a single family Frederick S. S Auerbach joined actively in the operation of the firm after completing his education education education edu edu- cation in the east and abroad and after obtaining obtaining obtaining obtain obtain- ing important merchandising experience in New NewYork York and arid other trade centers As a merchant he has been conspicuously successful His success has not all been measured by usual business standards He was held in de deep p affe affection tion by the host of who to use their own expression expression expression sion have worked with him He was their friend and helpful adviser Mr Auerbach was vice president secretary and treasurer of Au Auerbach Co of which Herbert Herbert Herbert Her- Her bert S. S Auerbach is president The complementary complementary complementary comple comple- personalities of the two contributed to toan toan toan an ideal partnership The business community will extend understanding sympathy to the elder brother and close associates associates' from whom an able collaborator has been taken In addition to his holdings in the family concern Mr Auerbach was was interested in important real estate mining gas and oil operations operations' At the time of his death he was a member of the national advisory committee committee committee com com- for Utah of the New York worlds world's fair He was a member of the Alta and Country clubs had been a member of the board of governors of the chamber of commerce and a member of Kiwanis Kiwanis Kiwanis Ki- Ki wanis and the Elks clubs He was active in the Jewish community He I Iwas was a member of Temple Israel and had been a member ojE of oJ its board of trustees He was also a member of Brith He was waS' chairman of the Jewish Welfare fund drive in this area for 1938 Born in Salt Lake City June 18 1890 he had spent the greater part of his l life e here He married Fannie Fox of Hartford Conn June 16 1925 She and their small son Freder Frederick ck Fox Auerbach survive together with Herbert S. S Auerbach and four sisters Mrs Gustave H. H Mohr Miss Bessie Auerbach Miss Jennie Auerbach Auerbach Auerbach Auer Auer- bach and Mrs Gerard Werner all of New York City The sisters are en route from their homes to be present a at the funeral services for which the first presidency of the L. L D. D S.
