R Hollingsworth 58 former United States district attorney former state senator and prominent throughout Utah as an attorney and a Republican party leader died i d at his hi home here today of a lingering illness Mr n. n iI Hollingsworth i v rth- rth was vas vas' born bor Jul July 4 1877 In Ogden son of Charles I Land L L. and Margaret I L. L Hollingsworth of Ohio IDs His parents came west in 1874 settling In Ogden where the father was employed with tho the Union Pacific railroad continuously until his death in 1890 I Mr Hollingsworth was educated I in the public schools of Ogden graduating graduating grad grad- from the Ogden high school June 12 1894 His first position was in the county clerks clerk's office held until un un- til Lii 1897 when he entered the employ of or tho the Ogden waterworks and the I Ogden Street Car company Clerk at 21 n nAt At the tho general election in 1898 when he was 21 years old Mr Hollingsworth Hol- Hol was elected clerk of Weber county He was elected to the tho state senate in 1904 and II served during the legislative sessions of ot 1905 and 1907 He Ho was elected state senator in 1926 and served during the legislative sessions of 1927 and 1929 He was chairman of ot the tho senate senate senate sen sen- ate judiciary committee during both sessions resigned at adjournment of tho the 1929 session and on March 16 1929 assumed the duties of United States attorney for the tho district of Utah to which position he was appointed appointed appointed ap ap- ap- ap pointed February 2 1929 by President President President dent Coolidge on recommendation of former Senator Reed Recd Smoot Mr Hollingsworth studied law under the guidance of Ogden lawyer friends and was admitted to practice by the supreme court of Utah after aCler an examination on May 8 1905 In March 1919 he was admitted to practice law in the supreme court of the United States on motion of Justice George Sutherland of at the United States supreme court Headed State Bar He was a member of the American Ameri Ameri- can Bar association and since 1908 had attended each national meeting with three exceptions He was a member of the Utah State Bar being being being be be- ing president from 1925 to 1927 and held membership in the Weber Co County nty Bar association t r 1 Nm ui Charles R. R Long legal career ends I I Mr Hollingsworth had frequently been the Utah member of the executive executive tive council of the tho American Bar association He was a member of the Commercial Law league a member member mem mem- ber her and director of tho the American Judicature society a member of the American branch of the International International International Law association and of the National Economic league He was married in October 1906 to Miss 1 Freda Bohn of Ogden who survives him Also surviving are two brothers Fred P.
