OCR Text SPECIAL SUGAR LAW FORECAST Leader Says Industry Needs Own On Setup v WASHINGTON ASHINGTON Jan 13 UP UP- UP Special legislation for the benefit of the beet sugar industry was forecast forecast forecast fore fore- cast today by Charles M. M Kearney o of Morrill Neb president of the National Beet Sugar Growers' Growers asso asso- elation Kearney was a member of the committee of 13 which drafted the seven-point seven program for new national na- na lonal farm legislation which was indorsed late Saturday by representatives representatives of most of the nations nation's farm organizations It looks to me though Kearney said today as if we are arc going to have lave to set up some separate sugar legislation There is the question whether the general program outlined out- out lined ined would be as effective as we need in in the beet sugar country Our problem has to be taken care of a little differently because we vc never have an exportable sul- sul plus Kearney predicted enactment of new sugar legislation would Include provisions for the quota s system stem from rom shore off-shore possessions and other countries to protect the beet indus indus- try He Ho called this fundamental to any s lutIon o of the sugar problem What other provisions would be proposed he said still sUll was tam ain A program however will wUl be mapped out at conferences between congressmen from the tho sugar states representatives of the AAA A A A and growers growers' spokesmen
