Show STUDIED ESKIMOS F f A yI I I 4 Dr Knud EXPLORER DIES AFTER R ILLNESS Knud Ra mussen Taken Sick on Greenland Trip Succumbs Press Prest COPE COPENHAGEN AGEN Denmark Dec 21 Dr Knud Danish arctic explorer died today after a long illness illness ill ill- ness brought on by food food poisoning contracted on his last ast expedition to Greel Greenland He Re was 54 years old Dr was wes seriously ill when he was WM brought home Novem Novem- ber 3 He was removed from the ship to his residence in an ambulance It w was v s said sold at that time that only a blood transfusion aboard ship had bad saved his life Dr was born at Jakobs Jakobs- haven Greenland June 7 1879 His ancestors on the maternal side were Eskimos After making his first expedition to Greenland in 1902 visited he-visited all of the known Eskimo tribes tribes' 1905 and 1924 studying their cus ens- toms S Later he hc announced he had ascertained ascertained ascer- ascer ascer ascer- tamed that the Eskimos originally were Indians who h had d wandered east and west from the coasts coast Last year the explorer was at the head of an expedition which surveyed miles of Greenland's southeast coast He was awarded one of ot the few life memberships of the American Geographical Gee Geo society graphical society in 1926 The immediate te cause o of the famous explorers explorer's death was a blood clot which stopped sopped his heart after he had appeared well on the road to reco re re- re- re co covery ery |
