Uon and of or the Health Magazine The most widely used and safest method for the destruction of superfluous superfluous super super- hair is the use of the electric needle The success of this method depends largely on the length of time that can be given to the process and on the skill of the operator No matter how carefully the work worle is le done there are occasional cases care in which ver very light scarring may occur Th The ray X-ray has haJ been n used to destroy de dri- stroy hair but the method Is considered consid ered cred to be especially dangerous because because be be- cause of the possibility of killing of the cells of the skin or stimulating ing the growth crowth of or the cells to the point of the appearance of cancer Thallium preparations recently introduced have been discarded d by the medical profession because of their danger There are cases of serious poisoning by this substance Another method in common use which will remove the hair but not permanently is the use of waxes which are arc spread on the skin soft and which are then pulled of off after the wax hardens When the wax is pulled of off the hair comes out This of course may be c associated with the possible danger of destruction of the skin In most instances because the hair roots are not destroyed the hair returns There are arc also such methods as the use of depilatories of chemical character which burn of off the hair and the use of the pumice s stone one method which Involves cutting of tho the hair to skin level and then constant con can s slant stant nt r rubbing with a fine pumice stone This method tends to coarsen the skin and sometimes the pumice in the pores and gives an Unsightly unsightly un Un- sightly ap appearance arance The best authorities do not recommend recommend recommend mend plucking the hairs for the reason rea rca son that this may alter the root position position position po po- po- po in the relationship rel to the shaft of the hair and the operator finds it difficult to locate the position of the root from the angle of the hair This may require several applications of the electric needle before the hair Is finally destroyed The question often asked Is 15 whether or not there are any harm ful effects from the use of the elec eler- ne needle dle Dr Agnes of England England England En En- gland who has done a great deal of this work says that there are occasional occasional occa cases in which there is pigmenting pig pig- after the needle has been used Hairs with thick roots strong hairs growing In soft moles and hairs which are arc plucked out often are return likely to evade destruction and II |
