Freed of the Commercial club F. F C C. Schramm vice president delivered delivered delivered ered the address of welcome to the distinguished visitors He spoke on behalf of his own club the Manufacturers Manufacturers' association the Associated Industries and the city of Salt Lake He Ho expressed the belief that the visit of men of affairs from all parts of the Union could only be of the greatest benefit to th the city and the state He opined that the visitors would take away some eye opening facts concerning Western Vestern industry that would give them much food for profound reflection The principal address of the day was that delivered by bv Homer L L. Ferguson president of the United States chamber of commerce and head of ot the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock bock company His subject was The Merchant Marine and since he is an authority on the subject his words were given the closest attention Charles C C. George of or Omaha director of ot the national nn chamber told of the great structure to be erected in Washington to be known as the worl workshop shop of or all American business at the nations nation's capital It is to be the headquarters of all commercial and trade organizations of the United States 1 F N N. Shepherd of ot Washington field manager of or the chamber of commerce of the United States spoke on the Inner workings of the chamber and the Ideals for which it is striving He outlined the practical results already obtained and the great business and remedial reforms now in contemplation I With the close of the luncheon the visitors were escorted to their quarters at the Hotel Utah where immediate preparations were made for their departure for Los Angeles at 4 45 p p. p m m m. over the Salt Lake Route The party will proceed to San Francisco and Seattle where they will go Into official session I |
