W Mellen that his efforts to get a compromise agreement from Salt Lake Lale City in the matter of ot buildIng buildIng building build build- ing the drainage canal in the North NorthPoint NorthPoint NorthPoint Point Irrigation district and a general general general gen gen- eral argument as to what should be bedone bedone bedone done next nett the cu county ty commission finally decided at noon today to proceed with the tile hearing of evidence evidence evi evi- dence concerning the tile reappointment of Sylvester Q Cannon as a member member mem mern- ber of the tile board of supervisors of the drainage district Mr Mellen had been delegated to tomake tomake tomake make an effort to bring an agreement between the various property Interests and Salt Lake City relative to construction of ot the drainage canal The property owners owners owners own own- ers agre agreed d to give the way right If the city would construct the canal canal ca ca- ca nal without cost to the district I The city however countered with witha a a proposition to build the canal canalI provided the district would pay I toward the cost of the work The city r fu ed to recede from this proposition ana Mr lien Mellen so Bo re reported reported reported re- re ported to the county commissioners commission s sa a and nd the property owners at 10 1030 30 o'clock this morning when the hearIng hearIng hearing hear hear- ing was resumed in the Irrigation controversy MELLEN ASKS TIME Mr Mell Mellen n suggested that If he hebach had bach further time and some help he might be able to yet work out some scheme to raise the money to cover the tho cost of the canal or bring about a plan to relieve the district from putting up cash to cover cost of the canal This brought up a a. question of ot what the commission should do as the next step in the proceedings Some thought more time timo should be given Mr Mellen and others that the matter before the board was whether or not Mr Cannon should be reappointed to the board and that before e an anything thing really definite could be bedone done in connection with the canal anal construction the board would of necessity have to determine determine deter eter- mine the truth ruth or falsity of charges against members of the board of supervisors and determine the of official of- of personnel of this board SHOULD PROBE CHARGES It was pointed out that charges of or conduct detrimental to the best Interests of the district had been made against all members of f the board and that it was necessary for these to be threshed out and the board s skirts cleared before there was any ay organization with which anyone anone could deal in the matter matter matter mat mat- ter of ot agreements or contracts for tor construction of canals After the attorneys and various land owners had argued these matters matters matters mat mat- for nearly an hour and a half it wis was finally decided by the county commission that the thing to do was to proceed with the tho hearing hearing- as asto asto asto to whether or not Cannon should be reappointed and this order was made mad A.
