Show FACTS ON FIRES ... 4 1. During 1940-41, U. S. fire losses exceeded the $400,000,000 . damage done by the German incendiary in-cendiary blitz on England during the same period. 2. Each year the U. S. loses the equivalent of a ful strength infantry in-fantry division through deaths by fire: 10,000 persons killed annually. The non-fatal burn casualties would decimate the equivalent of several more divisions. I 3. The Cocoanut Grove fire in Boston killed 492 persons. This loss of life was greater than that suffered by American troops in the invasion of North Africa. 4. There are more than 650,000 fires in the U. S. annually. 5. Fire each year burns over forest lands equal in area to New York State. 6. Eighteen per cent of all home fatalities are caused by burns. j And for every fatality, many more persons are permanently disabled or scarred. |
