Show STATE PLANS DRIVE ON TRASH FISH With the purchase of some 400 pounds of Derris root, the state fish and game department is ready to launch a wholesale drive on "trash" ' fish chubs, carp and suckers this year, Marion Mad-sen, Mad-sen, chief of state fisheries revealed re-vealed this week. uerris is a soutn American plant, which has been getting scarcer and scarcer in this country coun-try since the outbreak of the war. However, the state fish and game department was fortunate in se curing some 400 pounds of this powder over the winter and is ready to launch a "blitz" on the pestiferous "trash fish." According to Madsen, the active ingredient in Derris is Rotenone, which is a paralitic agent, working work-ing on the nerve centers in the gills. Thus it is sure death to all gill breathing life. The Derris root powder does not poison the fish, it simply forces suffocation by 'shutting off their ability to breathe. In the hands of any but skilled workmen it is most dangerous for it retains its killing powers for as long as five days and it fatal when mixedone part Derris root to 2 million parts of water. It is planned this year to use Derris root to kill all fish life in some of the smaller, out of the way lakes, and then start over with nothing but game fish in the lake.
