Show VETERANS URGED TO ACCEPT ESSENTIAL WORK Returning veterans who visit local offices of the United States Employment Service are being urged to preserve their rights to readjustment allowances as long as possible by accepting essential employment whenever available, Mr. W. L. Mildenhal,, local office manager, said today. As part of the USES special service program for veterans, the Veterns' Employment Represen-tatives Represen-tatives stationed in the 1,500 local lo-cal employment offices, have been instructed to explain provisions of Title V of the Servicemen's Readjustment Read-justment Act of 1944 pertinent to allowance payments and are attempting at-tempting to correct any misapprehension misap-prehension on the. part of service men that the allowance is a gratuity, gra-tuity, Mr. Mildenhall declared. Under Title V of the readjustment readjust-ment act, veterans retain the right to 52 weeks of readjustment allowances until two years after the end of the war, or following discharge, whichever is later. In offering veterans referral to employment, USES interviewers are making continued efforts to induce veterans to accept high priority jobs even though they are not subject to any restrictions under un-der WJtlC regulations. However, Mr. Mildenhall pointed point-ed out, many vetreans are eager to augment, in a civilian capacity, the contributions they have already al-ready made as soldiers to the war. |
