Show NEBO DISTRICT HOOP TILTS START FRIDAY Springville Plays At Tintic, Payson Goes To Spanish In Nebo Opening Games Friday Springville high school's Red Devils will pry the lid off the 1945 basketball campaign at Eureka Friday when they tangle with the strong Tintic basketeers. Payson will play at Spanish Fork in the other Nebo district game the same night. While Springville's pre-season record shows only one game won out of nine played, it doesn't look as if the Red Devils have been at ail impressive, to date. However, last week they held the state's top prep club of Provo to a 16-16 tie at halftime, despite losing in the last quarter by a 42-26 score. The Red Devils have improved im-menselv im-menselv during the last three practice tilts and if they are going places at all in the league this year, they should give the Tintic Miners their first defeat, despite the fact that Tintic plays a very good game on their home-court. Since losing Ray Miller, top player on the local squad, the Devils have been getting some stiff practice drills and Coach Christensen has shifted men in different positions, hoping for a working combination, which now, seems to be Eggertsen, . Miner, Reed, Olson, and Bird at present. Should these five click like they can do, Friday should see the Devils win at Tintic. However, Tintic Tin-tic has won a large margin 'of their pre-season games and much can be expected of the Miners this year. Friday night the Red Devils lost a close and thrilling game to the Bingham Miners at Bingham 33-37. The score was tied up, with one minute to go when Bingham Bing-ham scored two baskets to win the game. |
