Show Springville's improving Red Devils trounced the Lehi Pioneers on the local gridiron here Wednesday Wednes-day afternoon, 13-0, behind some outstanding ball icarrying by Morgan Thomas and veteran Bill Jones. After Lehi failed to make their downs midway in the first quarter, quar-ter, Springville took over and marched deep into Lehi territory from where Thomas, on a nice left end' run, carried the ball over for the initial score. Try for extra point was short. In the second quarter Thomas made a long run into Lehi territory and on the next play Lehi nter-cepted nter-cepted a long pass on their own 15, where they returned it to their own 45. Bill Jones for the Devils intercepted the next pass play on Springville's 28 and returned to their own 46. Big Glen Weight carried the ball to the Lehi 20 on a latteral. The half ended with Springville on the Lehi 15-yard stripe. Led by Thomas and Jones, the Red Devils went to the Lehi 28 and then to the 15. Thomas, on a reverse, cut through the right side of the line to go all the' way into pay dirt for Springville's next score. Jones, on one of his power drives, carried the ball over standing stand-ing up for the extra point. An exchange of penalties and fumbles in the last quarter kept the ball deep in Lehi territory, and Springville, was knocking on the door for another touchdown near the 10-yard line as the game ended. Lose To Lincoln The Red Devils dropped their second league game of the season to the strong Lincoln team on the Orem field last Friday, 13-0. The win for Lincoln left them undefeated unde-feated in league play to date. Lincoln broke the ice in the first quarter to score when Taylor intercepted a Springville pass on the Red Devils' 23-yard line. This break gave the Tigers, on line drives, their first score. Plunge for the extra point payed off. The third quarter saw Lincoln getting another break when Springville was forced to kick from the goal line, which punt was returned to about the 17. From there the Orem team drove to the 10 and then into the end zone for the second touchdown. Kick for extra point was wide. Neither team scored in the final quarter. For Springville, Otteson, A. Weight and Nebeker played well, but the smashing plunges and power runs of Bill Jones was outstanding. |
