Show 3R0CER SHOULD SOLICIT YOUNG MOTHERS TRADE The progressive Utah grocer will set his sights for the "carriage "car-riage trade," advises Intermoun-tain Intermoun-tain Retailer magazine. The publication is not referring to extremely well-to-do customers, but to the increasing baby population popu-lation of the state. There has been a rapid increase in birthrate during the past decade, dec-ade, the magazine states, with the number of children born yearly climbing from 18 per 1000 before the war to 20 per 1000 during the war and increasing to about 29 per 1000 at present a rate expected ex-pected to continue for some time. -When you get a young mother as a new customer, you have one that is going to have a growing food budget," Intermountain Retailer Re-tailer tells grocers, adding: "A young mother never buys just a few cans of baby food while she's shopping. She buys food for the entire family one stop. Few young mothers have time to chase from store to store. Generally they do not have the means for a great deal of eating out in restaurants, res-taurants, either. "Consequently, as she shops for her baby food, she shops for other items in the same store. Shopping Shop-ping habits are being formed which are likely to last for years." |
