Stone. Lt. Bird was born in Springville Spring-ville July 31, 1921, and upon graduating grad-uating from the Springville high school, entered the Brigham Young university. While in college col-lege he received his C. A. A. pilot's license. He joined the local unit of the National Guard and left with that unit for training at San Luis Obispo, Calif., in March, 1941. The following year he joined the air corps and subsequently received re-ceived training at Santa Ana, Hermit and Bakersfield, Calif. In February he was commissioned commis-sioned a second lieutenant and received re-ceived his pilot's wings at Douglas, Doug-las, Ariz. He later received advanced ad-vanced training at Alpena, Mich.; Denver, Colo.; Salt Lake 1 City, Utah; Reno, Nev., and then at Miami, Fla. Pie was pilot on the largest type of cargo plane. He left for overseas duty in October, 19-13. Lt. Bird married Ila Nan Clyde, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde, on May 7, 19-13, in the Salt Lake temple. , He is survived by his parents and two siste'rs, Mrs. Rena B. Caine, Clearfield, and Mrs. Ina B. Reynolds, Springville. |
