Show 'If lilt are we In an open letter signed by Nebo School District board and published in the Springville Herald, August Aug-ust 29th, they stated they have a building program for Springville for an expenditure of $155,000.00 to be carried out as soon as material, labor and federal authorization are availble. Is the Nebo School District Board acting in good faith on this proposal? A check with the Civil Production Pro-duction Administration office in Salt Lake Cty Tuesday Tues-day shows that no application whatsoever has been made for federal authorization to. construct any buildings in Springville with exception of the lunch room under the gym, which is being paid for out of school lunch fund money. .In talking with Mr. Seiler, manager of the Salt Lake office of C. P. A., he states that he had invited Mr. Barnett, superintendent of Nebo School District and the Nebo School Board to make application for needed school buildings in Springville. He further stated that he had at no time discouraged Mr. Barnett Bar-nett from making such applications, that in fact it was the policy of that office to grant and approve applications for needed school buildings and facilities as evidenced by the fact that the application of the Provo School District for the erection of a new $210,-000.00 $210,-000.00 elementary grade school building in Provo was approved without any delay and without any question on the first application presented. Provo elementary schools are in no more crowded crowd-ed condition than are the elementary schools in Springville, where over 100 Sixth grade students in three classes are being crowded into the basement of the high school, while every other grade is crowded to the limit. Nor do such crowded conditions exist in Spanish Fork and Payson, where none of the elementary elemen-tary school children are forced into such undesirable places as the basement rooms of a high school building. build-ing. This newspaper questions whether or not Supt. Barnett and the Nebo School District Board are acting act-ing in good faith toward Springville. They have published a written statement that they have $155,-000 $155,-000 ready to be used for Springville school buildings, yet they make no effort to file an application with the C. P. A. for federal approval which is the first step necessary for the erection of any kind of buildings build-ings in excess of $1,000. Can it be that they are afraid that if an application is made that it will be approved? ap-proved? WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR? |
