Show Kiwanis Initiates Plan To Aid Child Welfare Club Announces Annual Kiwanis-Teacher Meet This Evening, 7 P. M., At Chicken Roost; Dr. LeRoy Bishop of BYU.To Be Guest Speaker The Springville Kiwanis club has initiated a project through which it is hoped sufficient funds will be raised to aid with child welfare work in this city. It is pointed out 5that there -are a number of children chil-dren in Springville in need of medical med-ical and dental attention and at present are unable to have the much-needed work done, because of a lack of finances. Through the efforts of the vocational vo-cational guidance committee of the club, gum machines have .been installed in the various business establishments of Springville and the funds derived from the machines ma-chines will go into the child welfare wel-fare fund to be used for underprivileged under-privileged children. The machines were installed by the vocational guidance committee commit-tee of which Wendell Nielson is chairman with W. E. Cochran and W. W. Brockbank other members. The profits from the vendors will be spent under supervision of the committee on child welfare of which Sterling Price, Dr. C. W. Judd and Wm. Gogarty are members. mem-bers. Approximately twenty-four machines ma-chines have already been installed and at least fifteen more will be placed in the business district soon. They are filled with a good quality of gum coated with candy in the shape of vari-colored balls, at a penny each. Part of each penny placed in the machine will go to help the underprivileged children of the city. The Kiwanis club announces the annual meeting this evening at which school teachers of Springville Spring-ville and Mapleton will be guests. The dinner meeting is scheduled for 7 p. m., at Chicken Roost, with Eldon Reese to be toastmaster. Dr. LeRoy Bishop, well-known speaker and former superintendent superintend-ent of Tintic district schools, now on the BYU faculty, will be the principal guest speaker. The program pro-gram will also include musical numbers and readings. |
