Show IS Your Sidewalk Clean? The Springville Safety Council has issued a warning warn-ing to students who walk in the streets, pointing to the fact that it is a dangerous practice for students, and a most exasperating one to motorists. But nowadays it's much easier to walk on the streets. They are dry in most instances, while the sidewalks are ankle-deep with slush and water, and only a boat would keep one from near drowning. Some folks brag they haven't had time to shovel the snow from their sidewalks this winter. We will say there hasn't been much time between snows, but some folks have taken time and as a result are counted among the civic-minded citizens whose sidewalks side-walks are walkable. Springville received much fine favorable comment com-ment from motorists, both in and out of town, for the fine manner in which the streets were cleared during the snow storms, some even going so far as to say they were much better than those of our capitol city. But not so with our sidewalks. In Salt Lake City everyone must clean their walks of snow as soon as possible after a storm, or the city cleans them and the property owner gets the bill. That might be a workable solution to the problem in Springville and would bring to the minds of some citizens their responsibility in providing a safe, clean place for students and others to walk. |
