Show Strawberry Season Is At It's Height With the height of the strawberry straw-berry season approaching, the homemaker asks herself, "Should I wait a few weeks before buying berries for jam? When will the season for near-by berries be here ? And when will strawberries be less expensive?" Government experts have it all figured out. May and .June are the months when berries are most abundant. After June few are to be had. For a' delicacy such as strawberry shortcake, berries are now available. 3ut for preserving, preserv-ing, freezing or eating in any quantity, they advise waiting until the peak of the crop in June. They also point out that frozen strawberries, unlike most frozen fruits this spring, are in liberal supply. With fresh berries, handling is all Important. Pick them over first and discard any that are spoiled. Store them unwashed in the refrigerator. When ready to use them, wash the erries y putting put-ting them in a 'bowl of cold water and lifting them out gently with your fingers. Strawberry marmalade is a welcome wel-come variation of strawberry jam. |
