Show SIXTH DEFEATS DEVILS IN BENEFIT TILT The recreation - sponsored bas- ketball game between the Sixth Ward M Men and the High School Red Devils went to the Sixth Warders, 48-35. The Sophomores won a preliminary contest over a good Faculty team, 46-35. Both games were played here last Wednesday night before a good crowd. The wins for both the Sophomores Sopho-mores and Sixth Warders climaxed a highly successful season for the two teams, who finished tops in their respective leagues. ' Sanford and Smith, two promising first-string first-string candidates for next year's Red Devil five, kept the wily Sophomores out in front in their game. Jimmie Thorn also slipped in and around the buxom faculty players for his share of the scoring. scor-ing. Hughes, Pehrson, Christensen, Christen-sen, Nielsen, Hanks, Sheffield and Grotegut played for the faculty. The champions from the Sixth Ward held a 21-13 lead at the end of the first half over the Red Devils, and increased it over the Red Devil reserves to win going away, 48-35. Miller, Clark, Mower, Weight, Clark, Cherrington, Col-lett Col-lett played for Sixth. Scoring for the two teams was fairly evenly divided. Miller counted highest in the first half, but went out via the personal foul rule just before the half ended. Hales, Norton, Black looked good for the losers. Proceeds from the contests went , to the recreation department for the purchase of a large, stainless steel slide for the city park. This slide will be installed in the near future, reports Director Pehrson. |
