Show Galaxy Of Stars Excel In Tuneful Show . "Cabin In The Sky" Boasting a galaxy of stars, M-G-M's film version of the famed Broadway musical, "Cabin in the Sky," comes to the screen of the Rivoli Theatre Friday and Saturday. Satur-day. Once again scoring in the role she created on the New York stage, Ethel Waters, as the faithful faith-ful and loving Petunia, struggles to save the soul of her well-meaning but weak-willed husband, Little Lit-tle Joe, played by Eddie (Rochester) (Roches-ter) Anderson. Kenneth Spencer, noted concert singer, portrays a "General" of the forces of good who battle for her against the forces of evil represented by Lucifer, Luci-fer, Jr., Rex Ingram. Lucifer tries to achieve Little Joe's downfall by throwing temptation temp-tation in his path in the person of glamorous Lena Home, newest Hollywood singing sensation. But Petunia's love and faith is stronger, strong-er, and, with the aid of the forces of good, Little Joe is saved. "You'll love Ethel Waters as she sings the lilting tunes, "Happiness "Hap-piness Is Just a Thing Called Joe," "Cabin in the Sky," and "Taking a Chance on Love." Lena Home thrills when she sings "Honey in the Honeycomb." Rochester and Miss Home sing the mirthful "Consequences" in duet. |
