Show FROMTHE SEMINARY... By" LOUIS JOHNSON One day, when a great ruulti-tude ruulti-tude of people were assembled about lilui. Jesus related the par-al)le par-al)le of the sower. Said he: "A sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell by the B-ayside, and was trodden down and the fowls of the air devoured it And some fell upon a rock, and as soon as It was sprung up, it withered away because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up with It, and choked it. And others ell on good ground and sprang up, and bore fruit a hundredfold." Xow the parable is this: The seed Is the word of God. Those by He wayside are they that hear. Then cometh the devil and taketh away the word out of their hearts lest they believe and be saved. when they hear, receive the word Z Jy.and for a whlle beeve, but they have no root, and In time of temptation fall away. And they wh ch fell among thorns are they which, when they have heard go forth and are choked with cares and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. per-fection. But they on the good ground are they which have an honest and good heart, and having hav-ing heard the word, keep it, and , h frult with Pa"ence. This is the condemnation that the light is come into the world and man love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. For everyone that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh the light lest his deed should be reproved. The only way that we can receive re-ceive eternal life and return back to the presence of our father in - Heaven is by obedience to all the laws and ordinances of the gospel. gos-pel. We must keep the commandments command-ments of God and live a pure religion, re-ligion, and a pure religion and undefiled before God is this: To visit the widow and the fatherless father-less and to keep one's self unspotted unspot-ted from the -world. Religion is putting into practice prac-tice the gospel of Jesus Christ into our eevryday life. Mere belief be-lief in Jesus will save no man, but when our works make practical prac-tical our faith, then we may claim a realization, a fulfillment of all that is promised through our diligence. dili-gence. What doeth it profit though a man say he hath faith and have not works? Can faith save him? Without faith it is impossible to please God, but faith without works is of no avail. Works constitutes con-stitutes the handmaid of faith and one is not without the other in the Lord, for as the body without with-out the spirit is dead so faith without -works is dead also. Yes a man may say, "thou hast faith and I have works; show me thy faith without thy works and I will show ye my faith with my works. "Not everyone that saith unto me 'Lord! Lord!' shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven. He that hath my commandments and keepeth . them, he it is that loveth me, i and he that loveth me shall be loved of my father, and I shall love him and I shall manifest myself my-self unto him. "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine and doeth them," taught Jesus, "I will liken unto a wise man who built his house upon a rock, and the rain I descended and the floods came ; and the winds blew and beat upon that house and it fell not; for it was founded upon a rock. And everyone that heareth these sayings say-ings of mine and doeth them not, I will liken unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand; and the rain descended and the floods came and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was the fall of it." |
