Show Explosives Plant to Be Built in Canyon by Illinois Powder Company PROJECT TO EMPLOY FROM SEVENTY-FIVE TO ONE HUNDRED WORKERS A $500,000.00 modern commercial high explosives plant at the mouth of Spanish Fork canyon is to be constructed in the near future by the Illinois Powder Company, it was announced recently by A. H. Harter of St. Louis, president and general manager of the . company. Ground for the plant was broken Wednesday, Feb. 14. The plant will serve the Rocky Mountain area, and will be known as the Gold Medal Explosives division. div-ision. It is expected that the plant will be completed and ready for operation by September 1, 1940. Between 75 and 100 men will be employed under present plans. A complete line of commercial high explosives will be manufactured manufac-tured according to Mr. Harter, including dynamites for general purposes, and explosive powdeT for use in coal mines. Principal raw products, glycerine and nitrates, ni-trates, will be imported. The Illinois Powder Company was organized in 1907 and since that date has distributed explosives explo-sives of recognized quality throughout thro-ughout the Mississippi watershed, with established facilities as far west as Denver. |
