Show 4 Armed Forces Randall Sumsion of this city, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spender Sumsion, Sum-sion, has the honor of being the first Springville man to enlist in the second platoon of the modern day Mormon Battalion, which left the past week for California. The platoon consisted of 3 marine corps recruits of the L. D. S. church who were- inducted at an impressive mass ceremony in Salt Lake City the past week. Among Springville boys who left the past week for the armed forces were: Duncan Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan G. Anderson; Rodney F. Stebbins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stebbins; Gerald L. Allan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry KT. Allan; Max LaRay Dallin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Dallin; Max Whiting, son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Whiting; Glen S. Oakley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Shipton Oakley; Oak-ley; James O. Clyde, son of Mrs. J. B. Diamond; Burgis J. Sumsion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Sum-' sion. Rodney expects to go into the air corps as a mechanic, as does Gerald Ger-ald L. Allan, James O. Clyde, and Max LeRay Dallin. From Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., comes word that Orvil Clark, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clark of this city, recently arrived at that engineer replacement training center cen-ter for an intensive training program pro-gram in preparation for combat engineer en-gineer service. Training will include in-clude basic subjects like close extended ex-tended order drill, manual of arms, rifle marksmanship, and combat principles, as well as the function of military engineering. Soldiers go from here to tactical units or to special training of officer candidate schools. Mark K. "Bus" Cranmer, son of Mrs. Faye Cranmer of this city, is home on a 30-day furlough from the navy. He is visiting his wife, the former Louise Evans, and their six-month-old daughter, whom he saw for the first time. A second class carpenter's mate, Mr. Cranmer Cran-mer has been stationed in Newfoundland New-foundland for approximately 12 J months. Previously he has served in Pearl Harbor. He has been with the navy nearly four years. |
