Show City Softball Tourney Is Now Progressing Springville Garage And The Jaycee Softball Teams Capture Opening Tourney Games ; More Contests Tonight Springville Garage and the Junior Chamber of Commerce Softball teams captured opening games in the city Softball tournament now being run off at the city sonoaii parn. ine tourney, which is a double elimination affair, af-fair, got underway Monday night with the Springville Garage ten defeating the strong Bates & Rogers Ro-gers club 9 to 7 in a well-played game. Getzs, for the construction group, clouted out the only homer of the contest. Tuesday night the Junior Chamber Cham-ber men surprised fans with a 15, to 5 drubbing of the Park Inn ten. Although considered one of the top teams, the Chamber men were not expected to take the "Inners" by such a decisive score. Ray Klauckl led the winners with four base hits in four trips to bat, one of which was a home run. Tonight's games will start at 8 and 9:15 p. m. The tournament will conclude this week with the winning club being crowned city softball champ. Bates & Rogers captured the league championship with 10 wins and 6 losses. Park Inn was a close second with 9 wins and 7 losses. Springville Garage, with 8 wins and 8 losses, placed third, while the Jaycees, with 6 wins and 10 losses, held down the last spot in league standings. |
