Show 'SUGAR TO BE AVAILABLE FOR CANNING Sugar, for home canning of 1943 fruit crops will be available to housewives on approximately the same basis as last season, H. Grant Ivins, state director -of-the Office of Price Administration, said this week. Mr. Ivins said the OPA has agreed that no deduction of blue stamps will be made from War Ration Book Two for sugar obtained ob-tained for this purpose. In the 1942 season, housewives applied to local boards for sugar on the basis of one pound for each four quarts of fruit that it was planned to can. Roughly, the same pattern will be used this year, although al-though the full details have not been completed, Mr. Ivins said. Meanwhile, Ralph E. Bristol, district dis-trict manager of the War Production Produc-tion Board, said WPB has given the green light to production of bottles and caps for home canning, .thus clearing the way for an extensive ex-tensive home canning program to augment rationed foodstuffs. |
