Show Springville Girls Dominate Track Events at Meet Lenore Weight and Emma Ullock Star In Various Events; Local Girls Enter AH Competition Except Volley Ball Sweeping every event they entered, the Springville Spring-ville senior high girls were undoubtedly the most outstanding out-standing high school representatives in the B. Y. U. Invitational Track Meet held last Friday and Saturday at the "Y" stadium. Emma Ullock led the field in the baseball throw, with a toss of 210 feet 17 feet farther than her nearest rival. She also placed fourth In the 75-yard dash, as well as participating in the relays. re-lays. Lenore Weight, record holder of the 75-yard dash for the past two years, repeated again this year with an unofficial trial heat of :8.9. Her last year's official record, rec-ord, which still stands, was 9 seconds sec-onds flat. Entering all girls' events except volley ball, Coach Ida Hoffman's team gained outstanding honors by winning these events. Much praise is due Helen Bray, Marion Witney, Phyllis Boyer, Arlene Hatch, Jane Whiting, Vera Bartholomew Bar-tholomew and Marian Francis for outstanding work in the relay events. Although records remained intact, competition was unusually keen. Coach Hoffman will lose four girls through graduation but is looking forward to a successful season next year. |
