Bul-let."" Opening Friday at the Rivoli, this picture is based on the life of Dr. Paul Ehrlich, the man who discovered cures for some of mankind's most dread diseases. As short a time ago as two years a picture of this present content would never have been made for the screen. With a fearlessness that has been grounded in the fight of United States Surgeon General Doctor Thomas Parran, Warner Bros, has fashioned a script which gives visual and vocal vo-cal expression to the government's attempt to bring medical truth to light. "The StoryofDr. .Ehrlich's Magic Ma-gic Bullet" begins with Ehrlich's early attempts to positively identify iden-tify and segregate the tubercle baccillus. In his work he is thwarted by overlings who are jealous of his skill, who disparage dispar-age his ambition. Persistent to the point of his own personal ruin, Ehrlich forces his discoveries on I his findings. His research leads him to the discovery for the cure of mankind's most dread disease. Here Ehrlich' meets the blind and unintelligent outrage of gentility. The doctor calls a spade a spade and people are horrified. This does not lessen his determination to give his cure to the world, although al-though convention dictated that the disease itself might never be named in audible terms. "The Story of "Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Ma-gic Bullet" is a courageous film in every sense. Yet, from beginning to end, it is colorfu, romantic screen entertainment that emphasizes empha-sizes the distinctly human side of Ehrlich, his love for his home and family, his struggles against the petty jealousies and prejudices with which great men are always j plagued in doing their work. the medical world, wins victory after victory when first the celebrated cele-brated Dr. Robert Koch accepts |
