Show Fish and Game Dept. Receives US Gift The U. S. Government, through the General Service Administration Administra-tion and under Public Law No. 537 has given to the State Fish and Game Department 1280 acres of valuable game land. The area referred to was formerly occupied by the Utah Ordinance. It is fenced on three sides with five miles of cyclone fencing. This is the first gift of this kind from the Federal Government to come to .the State Fish and Game Department. The Salt Lake County Wildlife Federation as well as the Game Department has been active in making the contacts necessary to acquire the quit claim deed to the property. Under the conditions of the grant, the Game Department is not to use this as a migratory waterfowl refuge, and it can be taken back by the Federal Government Govern-ment in case it is needed for national na-tional defense purposes. The area will be given a face lifting by planting various plants that will be conductive to the welfare wel-fare of upland birds. Because of the limited amount of territory that sportsmen have to hunt upland up-land game birds in this section, this will, in all probability, be the first public shooting ground for upland game birds in the State of Utah. |
