Show From the Herald Files V W V 1 15 YEARS AGO . . . - Relatives and friends paid final tribute to Mrs. Mary Ann Giles, 77, at funeral services enducted Sunday. She died Wednesday at the family residence. Funeral services are being held today for Vivian Silas Hutchings, 33, a welder at the Pacific State Pipe Co., who died Saturday night of septeeemia. Eeautification of the state highways high-ways in this vicinity, is expected to begin this spring, when shade trees and shrubs will be planted near the underpass. The project is expected to furnish considerable handwork for relief workers. The high school opera is expected expec-ted to be an outstanding production produc-tion this year with an efficient cast of 150 people. "Lucky Jade" is the title and in the opera will be seen, Glen Law as an old man; Naomi Weight, as Mammy Liza; Glen Allan Is a slick villian; Milan Metcalf and Bernice Palfreyman have good parts and make a per- feet father nd mother; Aileen Condie is the daughter Mary Ann; Douglas Brown and Beth Lover-idge Lover-idge are two young lovers. Announcement is made of the marriage of J. Melvin Diamond of Springville and Miss Lois Barton of Salt Lake City. Having won seven games and lost one, the First ward M Men again won Kolob stake championship champion-ship for the third straight year. The team is composed of Howard Sumsion, forward; Lamar Weight, forward; Nolan Weight, center; Wilford Mower, guard; Wendell Nielson, guard; George Bird, guard; Gordon Pierce, forward; Robert Weight, center; Edgar Best, forward; Merrill Nielson, guard. Notice is hereby given by the Springville city council that it is unlawful to dump anything in Hobble Creek on or the banks. It is probable that Vadal Chiids will be the only sophomore at USAC to win three athletic letters let-ters during the present year. He played on the football team and is a substitute on the basketball team. He will also win his letter in track. The Gleaner girls and M Men of the First ward presented a play, "Close The Book" before a large audience Tuesday evening. Taking part were, Leora Peterson, Leon Bird, Jack Cherrington, Bessie Weight, Priscilla Nielson, Wilford Weight, Florence Daley and Melba Sumsion. A nicely arranged party celebrating cele-brating their 20th wedding anniversary anni-versary was given by Mr. and Mrs. George Peterson Saturday evening. A sumptuous lunch and '500' were enjoyed. Prizes for the cards went to Ivan Child, Mrs. Ronald Beardall. J. T. Wheeler and Mrs. Hilda Cherrington enacted a stunt portraying the bride and room 20 years ago. The Springville high school annual play, "Skidding" will be presented Wednesday night. Taking Tak-ing part in the production are: Margaret Bird, Rex Sutherland, Helen Whiting, LaMar Weight, Reed Averett, Berniece Nielson, Loris Snelson, Lymjan Metcalf, Fern Boyer, Dick Wightman. A reorganization of the local Farm Bureau was announced this week with Gerald Thorpe, Harvey Hutchinson, Mrs. Prudence Palfreyman, Pal-freyman, Mrs. Bell Chiids, Miss Beatrice Wheeler, named to the board of directors. Their officers are: Will Mower and George Peterson, Pe-terson, hold over directors, will select a president and secretary. Georgia Harmer, daughter of Mrs. Retta Harmer, is one of honor students at the University of Utah for the autumn quarter. The Kiwanis club will celebrate its ninth birthday at a special program this evening highlighted by numbers by three New Zealand students and Miss Hazel Anderson. Mrs. Nelson Beal will also direct a stunt by the ladies. 25 YEARS AGO ... Elder Jess Whiting writing from his mission headquarters in Vancouver Van-couver states that he has been visited by William Wainwright, who is also serving on a mission. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Llwellyn are the happy parents of a new baby boy. Mrs. Mary Jane Sanford, age 77, died Thursday, at the home of a daughter, Mrs. A. O. Thorn, of pneumonia. She was the widow of Cyrus Sanford. - Mrs. Lela Coplan (Sumsion) is visiting relatives and friends here from Mesa, Arizona. Miss Mattie Davis entertained at a Valentine party Saturday evening, eve-ning, the following guests were present, Marie Nelson, Emily Strong, Helen Gale, Ida Harmer, Olive Chiids, Ellen Wheeler, Idona Harrison, Mary Boyer. Mr. and Mrs. Selvby Boyer were entertained with a surprise" party at their home Friday evening, the occasion being Mr. Boyer's birthday. birth-day. Thirty friends attended. The Springville high school hoop-sters hoop-sters took a second step closer to second place in the district, when they defeated Nephi Friday evening. The score ended 26-17.
