Show Citizens Should Write Congress, Says GUV, Urging Support of Water Project The mid-January congTessional hearing on the Colorado River Storage Project is of vital interest to all residents of Utah Valley. Water Wa-ter is the life blood of the inter-mountain inter-mountain area. As things stand now, we have about readied the limit in population populat-ion increase and industrial expansion expan-sion until new and added sources of water and electrical energy are developed. If weather conditions continue for the remainder of this winter as they are now, acute I i water shortages will occur j throughout Utah Valley before the j close of summer of 1954. It's just j as simple as that. Either addit-; addit-; ional water resources must be prov-! prov-! ded, or our industrial and social economy will suffe'r seriously. Water is such a vital necessity in the'West, that every drop should be conserved and put to the most j efficient use. The coming decision of the Congress on the Echo Park, 1 Split Mountain, and Canyon Glen , projects will affect us vitally in the foreseeable future. Our experience in the past has proven conclusively tnai uongress plways yields to sound evidence, when supported by solid public opinion. The time to act is now. If we get our portion of the waters of the Colorado River, we must have the help and support of every city, civic group, bank, water users, association, and individual. We must contact our congressional representatives at once, by telegram tele-gram or letter, and urge their support sup-port of Senate Bill 1555. This legislation, as far as Utah Valley is concerned, is perhaps the most vital that will come before the present session of Congress. It will require united and vigorous vigor-ous action on the part of all, in order to insure favorable consideration. |
