Show Speeding Heads List of Law Violations in '53 Springville police officers issued far more tickets for speeding during dur-ing 1953 than for any other violation, viola-tion, according to an annual report re-port submitted by Police Chief H. M. Weight. A total of 273 speed violation tickets were issued for the twelve months with the next highest vio- lation being that of traffic signs for which 108 tickets were given. Other violations were listed as follows: no driver's license, 46; public intoxication, 38; driving under un-der the influence of liquor, 9; illegal illeg-al parking, 28; failure to yield right-of-way, 16; cars out of control, con-trol, 21; reckless driving, 6; improper im-proper turn, 11; improper passing, 3; disturbing the peace, 6; other minor traffic offences, 9. There were nine tickets given to dog owners who allowed their animals ani-mals to stray. Of the total number of tickets given, 45 were to juveniles and these people were turned over to the juvenile authorities. A total of 87 cases of larceny (petty thievery, shop-lifting, etc., involving less than $50) were reported re-ported to the police during the year, and 68 arrests were made with 59 found guilty. There were 26 burglaries (mostly (most-ly juvenile involving breaking into homes, etc.) and of these 19 were found guilty. Auto thefts in Springville during the year totaled four and all cars were recovered with three persons found guilty in the cases. Car Accidents In a total of 103 automobile accidents, ac-cidents, 146 cars were damaged and the estimated damage to all cars from all accidents was estimated esti-mated by the police at approximately approxi-mately $19,654. Two people were hit by cars during dur-ing the year, but there were no fatalities. Three persons were involved in bicycle accidents and sustained minor injuries, the police report stated. |
