Children under twelve years of age will be entertained in the afternoon after school with games and refreshments while the evening program will commence at 7:30. Two new members have been added to the finance committee Marva Whiting who will have charge of entertainment and Amanda Binks who will be publicity pub-licity agent. It was Seminary Graduation for fifteen Mapleton students Sunday evening in the Mapleton Maple-ton ward. Instructor Alton Merrill Mer-rill introduced the program which was as follows: invocation, invoca-tion, Richard Barker; talks by Sharon Tew, Pat Williams, Mack Bills, Mary Dibble, Marvin Mar-vin Jensen; violin solo by Martin Mar-tin Palmer, accompanied by Marjorie Whiting; talks by Sandra San-dra Bingham, Julie Cloward, Martin Palmer. Lorraine Aver-ette, Aver-ette, Dana Snow and instructor Erwin Sheffield; closing prayer by Lyle Palmer. The program was outstanding and the instructors are to be complimented for their accomplishments accom-plishments with these students. Mr. and Mrs. Norris T. Binks and Mrs. C. W. Erickson were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cornell Binks in Payson. "Dear to My Heart" was the theme of the party given by the MIA Maids of the . Mapleton Second ward in the church Mon- day night in the Relief Society room. Class leader Beth Larson was in charge. A talk was given giv-en by Mrs. Ethel Jensen and was followed by a toast to the girls by Erma Hjorth. Response was given by Kathleen Lee. A piano selection was played by Kathleen Bennett; a vocal duet sung by Laura Bennett and her daughter, Gay; Carol Lindsay played a piano solo. Refreshments Refresh-ments concluded the evening. "Women of The Bible" was reviewed by Mrs. Mary Shreiver in the Special Interest Class of the Mapleton Second ward, which was well attended. Class leaders are Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Mendenhall. Lt. and Mrs. Loyal Hastings and their three children of Mesa, Arizona are guests at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Mendenhall for several days. They left Tuesday for Clovis, New Mexico where Loyal will continue his service in the Air Force. While they were here a family dinner was given at the Mendenhall Men-denhall home where covers were laid for Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Mendenhall and two children of Price; Mr. and Mrs. Heber Mehr and two children and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Jensen of Salt Lake City; Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Hastings and three children child-ren and the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Mendenhall. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Holley left for Vernal Saturday on a combined com-bined business and pleasure trip. While in Vernal they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Rus-sell Holley and family. The women of the Mapleton ward Relief Society commemorated commemor-ated the Birthday Anniversary of their organization with a Smorgasbord Tuesday morning. Favorite dishes and recipes were brought by each member which resulted in a wonderful variety of choice dishes, especially especi-ally in the line of casseroles and desserts. Luncheon was preceded by a lecture by Mrs. Clyde Lowe of Spanish Fork, who gave in a very interesting manner her experiences ex-periences in Pakistan and showed show-ed an interesting display of articles and souvenirs from that country. Music was furnished by Beth Jensen and Lanore Bills, who sang a duet and were accompanied by Norma Cox. Jennie Tew gave a history of the Mapleton Relief Society. Marva Whiting gave a demonstration dem-onstration on pastries. General arrangements for the party were planned by the presidency, pres-idency, Mrs. Barbara Murray, Phyllis Johnson and Esther Hurst assisted by the serving committee, Blanch Tew, Marva Whiting and Gen Allen. The program was planned by Grace Norwood, Catherine Ann Jensen, Jen-sen, Lora Bird and Orpha Dee Johnson. A "Pot Luck" lunch was featured fea-tured Wednesday morning for the Mapleton Second ward Relief Re-lief Society with president Louise Schwartz in charge. She was assisted by Gladys Johnson, John-son, Helen Wiscombe, Dorthy Wiscombe, Edna Lindsay, Jessie Larsen and LaVeta Westwood. A favorite recipe was made by each member to help add interest inter-est and variety to the lunch. Mr. S. Lavell Bird spent the weekend at home after spending spend-ing the week in Twin Falls, Idaho selling crop insurance for the Federal Crop Insurance Organization. Or-ganization. Mrs. Mae Binks is spending several weeks in California where she has been a guest at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Reese Mower in Bell Gardens and with her sister, Mrs. Flora Jex in Santa Monica. Camp Union DUP will be held tonight at the home of Mrs. Lenore Bills. Members are hereby here-by notified. Mrs. Eva Bird will be hostess to the Needle Craft club this afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Allen and their daughter, Jeane were among the guests at a dinner party at the home of their niece and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Dixon of Provo given in honor of Mrs. Dixon's mother, Mrs. Hannah Callister. A St. Patrick's color scheme was used in table decorations for the Mapleton Lions and their Ladies supper Thursday night at Bart's Cottage in Springville. President Sylvester Allen was in charge and Mrs. Allen supervised table decorations. decora-tions. Special guest speakers were District Governor Marion Hali-day Hali-day of Provo; LeRoy Johnson, International Councilor also of Provo and Maug Warren of Springville. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Singleton and Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Mackenzie. Mac-kenzie. A building fund project for the Mapleton Second ward will be given in the form of a dehydrated de-hydrated food banquet Monday, March 18 in the church. It will be served by a company of Salt Lake City with A. L. Schmidt in charge. These foods are available for the public who are storing a year's supply of food. The proceeds will go to the building fund of the ward. Chairman of the building fund committee is Bishop Reed Bennett Ben-nett and committeemen are Wayne Gabbitas, Cloyd Dalton, Niel Whiting. On the entertainment entertain-ment committee are Mr. and Mrs. Merrill Halverson, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Holley, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Bird and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Everett. Another building fund program pro-gram for the Mapleton Second ward will be a musical program which will be presented by the Mendolsen Male Chorus of Provo Pro-vo on Saturday, March 23 in the church. Everyone is invited. |
