LaMar Miner was guest speaker talking on plans for a junior jun-ior wildlife club. Mrs. Clyde Despain is spenpding a month visiting several of her daughters who live in California. Her daughter Shirley who is now Mrs. Nelson Sagel had been visiting visit-ing at the Despain home and returned re-turned to her home in Upland, California with her mother. The Mapleton Chapter of DUP met Thursday September 10 at the home of Mrs. Belva Wentz. Assisting As-sisting the hostess were Inez Har-mer, Har-mer, Jen Allen and LaVerl Young. Histories were given of two club members whose birthdays occurred on that particular day. Mrs. Alice Johnson gave the lesson. Mrs. Len-ore Len-ore Bills gave a vocal solo. Rei-f Rei-f rvashments were served to twenty-two twenty-two members. Patriarch and Mrs. Oscar Whiting Whit-ing and their two daughters Virginia Vir-ginia and Marilyn spent the weekend week-end at Bear Lake visiting at the summer cabin of a sister of Mrs. Whiting's. Bert Gividen who has recently graduated from a leadership school at Fort Ord, California, is spending spend-ing a ten-day leave at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Gividen. When he returns to camp at Fort Lewis, Washington, his parents and two sisters Georgene and Mary Jo will accompany him. H.3 expects to be shipped to Korea soon. ings will continue his studies at the BYU and Janet will teach school at Orem. Mrs. Mildred Johnson of Huntington Hunt-ington is spending several days as the guest of her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Aaron B. Mendenhall. A goodly number of Mapleton folks attended -the wedding of Ronald Mackley and Jeanne Loveless Love-less at the Joseph Smith building in Provo Friday evening. Ronald is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Spen-cer Mackley formerly of Mapleton. Mrs. Frank ' Oberhansley and small daughter Susanne who have been guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. Lavell Bird for several weeks have returned to their home in California. . Mr. Horace Perry who reached his 80th birthday Saturday was pleasantly surprised by members of his family and their children at his home. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. John Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Elmer, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Warner, Mr. and Mrs. Max Francom all of Spanish Fork, and Mr. and Mrs. Warren Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gardner of Springville, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Law-rence Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Jones of Mapleton, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Warner of Salem, Miss Betty Warner of Salt Lake iCty, and Mrs. Bill Nevers of Sunland, California. Six great grandchildren were also present. The time was spent in visiting and reminiscing. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Paul Selfe and two small sons of Tuscon, Arizona, have spent a month at the home of her mother Mrs. Jamina Cazair. Mr. and Mrs. Loyal D. Hastings (Janet Mendenhall) have returned to Mapleton after spending the summer in Farmington, New Mexico. Mex-ico. They will make their home in Provo this winter where Mr. Hast- The Mapleton Relief Society will hold their opening social on Tuesday, Tues-day, September 28 at 2 o'clock. A splendid program has been arranged ar-ranged and all members are cordially cord-ially invited to attend and the officers of-ficers in charge would appreciate it very much if each member would bring a ball of carpet rags. Be sure and come and remember the "carpet rags." The MIA of Mapleton ward will give their opening social on Tuesday Tues-day night, September 22. A one-act one-act play will be presented and all ward members are urged to attend. The members of the Needle Craft Club entertained their husbands hus-bands at a lawn and fireplace supper sup-per Saturday night on the Mapleton Maple-ton memorial park. Barbequed hamburgers and mellons were served ser-ved to approximately forty-four members and partners. Club officers offi-cers Mrs. Eva Bird, Marie Morgan and Martha Whiting were in charge. Mrs. James Allen spent a delightful de-lightful week in Cedar City as the guest of her sister Alice Williams. Will-iams. While there another sister Mrs. Ruth Whitworth of Los Angeles, An-geles, was also a guest. Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Hopla and two daughters Mrs. Carma Frandsen Frand-sen and Mrs. Renee Dove were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Durrant of Ogden Sunday. Sun-day. Wednesday, September 16 was the 77th birthday of Mrs. Josephine Jose-phine Roundy. Honoring her on this occasion were her daughters and daughter-in-law, Inez Harmer, LaRie Rallin and Lucy Roundy. Open house was held at the home of Mrs. Inez Harmer from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. to which numerous friends and relatives called. |
