J I' ,7 .' c " i Missionaries Will Be Part of Pageant Program Elder Stanley Boyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Boyer, who is now serving as a missionary in the Eastern States Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Latter-day Saints has been selected to appear in this colorful event Elder El-der Boyer is one of 150 missionaries mission-aries that will be participating along with students from BYU and members of the church living in the Eastern States. Elder Boyer has labored in the city of Baltimore, Maryland, for fifteen months and in the city of Rochester, New York, for the past two and a half months. Before his mission he attended Brigham Young University for two years. "America's Witness for Christ" is an elaborate panorama of the events in Ancient American history his-tory as taken from the pages of the Book of Mormon. It tells of Moroni, an Angel sent from God appearing to the young man Jos- Elder Stanley Boyer . This record, re-cord, transplanted by the gift and power of God, tells the stirring history of the descendants of Joseph (who was sold into Egypt) how they were led by the Lord from Jerusalem to America, the prophecies and teachings of their prophets and the appearance of Christ to these people. It tells why their once proud cities are now ruins marking a vanished civilization. Miss Ruth Ann Boyer, daughter daugh-ter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur C. Boyer, left today to participate in the 15th annual performance of the nation's foremost religious pageant, "America's Witness for Christ." Miss Boyer was selected by the college of speech and dramatic dram-atic art of Brigham Young University Uni-versity as one of the 80 students departing today by chartered bus for Palmyra, New York. There they will be joined by the missionaries mis-sionaries of the Eastern States Mission of Lattez--day Saints and members of the church from that area to stage this colorful event on August 9, 10, and 11. Dr. Harold Har-old I. Hansen of the Brigham Young University will direct the pageant. The pageant is staged on the western slopes of Hill Cu-morah Cu-morah and the slopes of the hill become alive as the scenes move from one to another of the four large constructed stages at varying vary-ing levels of the side of the hill. The blackness of the night provides pro-vides a natural curtain for each scene as it is bathed in the soft glow of colorful lights or announced an-nounced by the brilliant light of powerful arcs. |
