Show 'KIDNAPING' TURNS INTO ELOPEMENT YPSILANTI, Mich., Jan. 4 (U.R) Gertrude Bennett, 17-year-old daughter of Harry-Bennett Harry-Bennett of the Ford Motor company, was married last night to Russell Hughes at Auburn, Ind., it was announced an-nounced at the Bennett home today. The marriage was performed by Justice of the peace Miles Baxter at Autumn shortly after the couple, who had eloped from here earlier in the evening, had obtained obtain-ed a license, according to Capt. Don Leonard of the State police. The marriage was confirmed, Leonard said, shortly after the Bennett home was informed by United Press than the couple had obtained marriage license. At Auburn. Ind., justice of the peace Baxter said that be performed per-formed the ceremony in his office last night. Leonard said that Bennett was "broken up" by the news. Bennett Ben-nett had believed that Gertrude missing nearly 20 hours when word of the marriage arrived, would not elope or would call him if .she intended marriage. "They seemed excited like any young couple but not overly excited excit-ed like they were breaking a law," Baxter said at Auburn. Leonard said that Gertrude had given her bfffli date as May 2, 1918. Her correct birth date is May 2, 1919. The inaccuracy, he believed, was to make her age 18 instead of 17. Hughes said his father was employed em-ployed in Chicago. At his home near here, Hughes has been living with his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Routson. Leonard Leon-ard said the fami'ly was not informed in-formed where the couple went after the marriage. Bennett said he would do nothing noth-ing to interfere with the marriage.
