Show city and Miss Donna James of Spanish Fork, were issued a license lic-ense to wed last Fri'day at the county court house. Among the delightful parties of the past week was the birthday party given by Miss Benice Chader at her home Thursday evening for a number of friends. M'.rtain, for 50 years a nurse in Salt Lake City and Springville, will be honored with an informal reception to which all her friends and relatives are invited, from 4 to 8 p. m., Wednesday, in the Springville Fourth ward Relief society hall, the occasion being her seventieth birthday anniversary. annivers-ary. A sister of Professor Alice L. Reynolds of the B. Y. U. Mrs. Martain is well known throughout the county for her work as a nurse. She has a record of having hav-ing been in attendance at the birth of more than 2000 babies. She was born in Salt Lake City January 5, 1SU7, a daughter of George anil Mary A. Tuddenham Reynolds. Mrs. Martain graduated graduat-ed from the Deseret hospital in 1S87, and has been doing nurse work almost continuously since ihat time. She hits six daughters and a son, Mrs. Mary Reed, Mrs. Emily Jensen, Jack Martain, Springville; Mrs. Owen Vincent, Mrs. Amy Meacham, Mrs. Dean Rasmussen, I'rovo, and Mrs. Maude Ogden, Salt Lake City, all of whom with Ralph Reed, A. W. Harmer, Professor Pro-fessor Alice Reynolds and Mrs. Amy Donaldson, the latter also a sister, are arranging the birth- Wednesday, January 12 at 8 p. m., at Memorial hall. Miss Helen Pierce of Salt Lake City, spent the holidays with Miss Cleo Pierce and Miss Lois Hales in Springville. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Olsen of this city entertained a group of former teachers who were associated as-sociated with Mr. Olsen in the schools at Preston, Idaho, several sev-eral years ago, at their home Thursday evening. The social was in the form of a dinner with covers laid for the following: Professor Pro-fessor and Mrs. Archie Robbins of Salt Lake City; Principal and Mrs. Jessie T. Wilson of Eureka; Professor and Mrs. Harrison R. Merrill of provo, and Mrs. Henrietta Hen-rietta Nalder of Canada. All enjoyed en-joyed the evening with reminiscences remin-iscences of former school teaching teach-ing days. Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall of this city accompanied by Mrs. Lottie Hall of Rigby, Idaho, were guests at a delightful paty New Years eve at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Johnson in Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. J. X. Gardner and son Dougall X., spent the holidays on a trip to the west coast. Members of the Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club will be entertained at their regular meeting Friday evening, eve-ning, at the home of Mrs. Emma Jacobsen, the meeting having been postponed from Thursday night. Members of the Novelty Circle, high school social unit, spent an enjoyable time Thursday, on a skating party. The group motored mo-tored to Mapleton reservoir to skate and later assembled at the home of Miss Venice Whiting where a tasty lunch was served. In attendance were Miss Hazel Bray, Miss Conda Riding, Miss Arlene Hatch, Miss Yvonne Childs, Miss Marjorie Childs, Miss Claire Rowland, Miss Beth Mendenhall, Miss Mildred Parry, Miss Maxie Wilkins and the hostess. Mrs. Clair Turley Newberry, author of children's books, and son Stephen, who have made their home in Springville, the past several sev-eral months, left recently for an indefinite visit with Mrs. Newberry's New-berry's parents at Flint, Mich. Thoy also plan to visit in New York City. Ji'm Wilkins and his sister Miss Maxie Wilkins of Richmond, Cal., formerly of Springville, have spent the past several days with friends in this city. : Mr. and Mrs- Bill Blanchard ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. John Blanchard and daughter Betty, visited during the holidays with the latter's daughter, Mrs. Clifford Richmond and family in Salt Lake City. Clyde and family left the latter part of the week on a vacation trip to the west coast. Mrs. Louise Harmer and Mrs. Thelma Harmer and children of Payson spent Thursday with relatives rela-tives and friends in Springville. Orvil LaCelle Harmer of this Mr. and Mrs. Reed Clements and family were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Clemen t'ssister, Mrs. George Hansen Han-sen and family at Palmyra. A group of friends enjoyed a New Year's watch party at the home of Miss Edna Nielson. The 1 girls attended the preview at 'the local theater and then had lunch and an early morning breakfast at the Nielson home. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hoffman of Grand Junction, and Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Urquhart of Salt Lake City, former Springville residents, were among the holiday holi-day visitors in Springville. Bishop Duane G. Hunt of the Catholic diocese, Salt Lake City, Father Henry Steudeback of Provo; Miss Ella Ward of Helper and Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Fennell, were guests at a 5 o'clock dinner Friday, at the home of Mrs. P.L. Ward of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Bird and daughters of Bingham were guests Sunday, of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bird, on their way home from a two week's vacation in California. A group of friends held their annual New Year's eve watch party Friday night, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Fen-! Fen-! neli.
