Show . I Local I Sara Marie Binks of Springvilie was elected secretary of the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young university freshmen class at their annual elections this week. MiSd Binks formerly edited the Springvilie high school paper. The sophomore class is undertaking under-taking for their project this year the placing of a beautiful oil painting paint-ing by Wayne Johnson, and valued at $50 In the home of some patron or student. Foi' this purpose the class will sell tickets for the picture pic-ture and the money derived will be used in the fund for their art queen. This is the initial movement move-ment toward the annual art fund and the cooperation of the public will be appreciated. The picture is titled, " "Hollyhocks." "Holly-hocks." Six cars of cattle, the first shipment ship-ment this season left here the past week. The stock although in good condition will be fed in yards at Delta perhaps two weeks before continuing their journey to western west-ern coast markets. An outstanding program was given in the Fourth ward Relief society Tuesday afternoon, when Joseph Ei. Nelson, former juvenile judge and now Nebo school district dis-trict coordinator, spoke on "Prevention "Pre-vention of Crime". An enjoyable musical program was also given. The meeting was under the direction direc-tion of the social service depart- ment of the organization. The First ward activity committee commit-tee announce a Hallowe'en costume cos-tume ball Friday night at the amusement hall. The entertainment en-tertainment is a budget event and all ward members are urged to attend. Dr. William E. Snow of the B. Y. U. and Sylvan Clark, the latter a candidate for Democratic election to the county commission were the principal speakers at a Democratic Ladies' Study club las? Thursday night, at the home of Mrs. Greenwood. The raoeting was Mrs. H. T. Reynolds, Jr. A number num-ber of special guests also attended including Mrs. Maude B. Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. Erving Pratt, and under the direction of Mrs. Eva Crandall, precinct chairwoman. Miss Beth Mendenhall entertained with a piano solo and a trio from the high school also gave music. At the conclusion of the meeting refreshments were served. Reynolds, Sr. The high school and grade schools will close Thursday noon so that teachers may attend the Utah Educational association meetings in Salt Lake City during the latter part of the week. A very fine audience packed the house at Mapleton ward, Sunday evening, listening to an illustrated lecture delivered by C. V. Hansen of Provo, on the early history of the L. D. S. church. , The Mapleton Parent-Teacher association will hold the second meeting of this year, next Wednesday, Wed-nesday, at 7:30 p. m., in the school house, announces President Vandd. Jensen. A splendid speaker is engaged en-gaged for the occasion in addition to a fine program. All parents in the community are urged to attend. The meetings are scheduled to be held regularly the first Wednesday Wed-nesday in each month. The last meeting featuring a good program was well attendee according to officers of-ficers of the organization. T |
