The meeting will feature a fine program with Mins Fern Chrl.itensen to give a book review. Dr. and Mm. V. M. Sevy of Salt Lake City were guests of Dr. and Mrs. L. E. Otteson on Friday and I also visited the art in the new ! gallery. Complimentary to Lei Thorpe of this city who was 77 years old old Sunday, "his children entertained enter-tained at a social at his home in Mrs. M. W. Bird were named alternates. In attendance were 10 club members and two guests the latter including Miss Orol Bird of Salt Lake City and M-rs. Myron Childs. The Ladies Literary club held an interesting and eTJoyablc club meeting Thursday evening. The group assembled at the art gallery at 7:30 p. m. when Mrs. Mae Huntington gave an interesting review of the pictures on exhibit. They later went to the home of Mrs. Harold Christensen, president, presi-dent, where an interesting program pro-gram on music was carried out. Dainty refreshments were served in conclusion to sixteen club members mem-bers and two guests, Mrs. Huntington Hunt-ington and Mrs. Pricella Clark of Cedar City. - The Ladies Literary club entertained enter-tained at a husbands party last Saturday night in the form of a luncheon at the Edna Mae Hecl-quist Hecl-quist home in Provo. A delightful program and games were also enjoyed, en-joyed, with twenty four club members mem-bers and guests in attendance. Mrs. F. C. Packard, Mrs. Oliver Dalton and Mrs. V. C. Mendenhall had the party in charge. G. L. Barron, superintendent of the Desert Range CCC camp at Milford, spent the week end with his family here. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Dougall and daughters Margaret and Patricia Pa-tricia and Miss Ethel Paul of Salt Lake City were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. G. S. Wood and Mr. and Mrs. J. X. Gardner and also visited the art here. In honor of Chester Hutchings who celebrated his 73rd birthday Sunday, his children entertained at a family dinner at the family residence during the day. Covers were laid for 29 family members including children and grandchildren grandchil-dren also Mrs. Lucy Robertson a sister-in-law. During the dinner a letter from a son Edward Hutchings Hutch-ings In Wyoming, was read, congratulating con-gratulating Mr. Hutchings on the occasion. In honor of Miss Lula Hatch, Miss Mary Boyer entertained at a dinner for a number of friends in Salt Lake Tuesday evening. Mrs. Rea Straw, Miss Leone Cooper, Miss Minerva Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Best were among those who went from Sprlngville to the grand opera given early in the week at Kingsbury Kings-bury hall, Salt Lake City. Mrs. Buleah Whiting entertained entertain-ed at a family dinner at her home Sunday for Mr. and Mrs. Harold Whiting, Verl Whiting of Salt Lake City, Miss Patricia Lodge of Payson, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Haymond and Miss Venice Whiting. Whit-ing. Mrs. Luell Best will be hostess to members of the Jovality clut at 'a party at Valley Tavern Inn Thursday evening. Members are urged to be present promptly at 8 p. m. the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Hatch of this city announce the marriage of their daughter Lula, to Frank S. Campbell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert VV. Campbell of Rupert, Idaho, which took place Thursday, April ,15, in the Salt Lake temple. The couple plan to make their home in Burley, Idaho. Miss Lula Hatch was guest of honor at a kitchen shower given by Mrs. Ivan Felix and Miss Avis Thompson at the home' of Mrs. Milessa Thompson, Monday evening. eve-ning. Members of the Current Study club were delightfully entertained at a regular meeting and luncheon at Keeleys, Monday evening. Miss Leone Cooper and Miss Ellen Wheeler were hostesses. Miss Elda Hansen was in charge of the program pro-gram which consisted of two vocal solos by Utan composers, "When It's Springtime in the Rockies," by Hansen, and "111 Be Going Back to My Rocky Mountain Sweetheart", Sweet-heart", by Frank Gould, given by Miss Helen Palfreyman. Elmer Crowley, B. Y. U. student body president, gave a chalk talk and Professor B. F. Larson gave an illustrated talk on Utah artists. The program followed a tasty luncheon served to fourteen members mem-bers and guests, the later includ- piano solo. The Womens Press Club of Southern California last week featured Tess Hatfield as soloist for their open day meeting. meet-ing. Mrs. Hatfield gave a group of piano solos featuring Bach as the main composer. At present Mrs. Hatfield is filling her third term as director of music for the Los Angeles Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Mr. and Mrs. Warren erre of Provo, announce the marriage of their daughter LaVell. to Glenn McKee, son of Mrs. Sarah McKee of Springville. The ceremony was performed by President J. Em-mett Em-mett Bird of Kolob stake at noon Wednesday, at his home here. Professor Harrison R. Merrill of the B. Y. U. gave a talk on, "Utah Mrs. Harry Pennington will be hostess to members of the S. T. club at her home Friday evening beginning at 8 o'clock. One of the enjoyable socials of the week was held Tuesday afternoon after-noon by the First ward Relief society so-ciety when they entertained for Mrs. Hannah Clyde and Mrs. Lydia Billings w'no have recently moved from the ward. A program was given with a trio from the high school, composed of Pauline Clyde, Grace Holley, and Naomi Pierce, accompanied by Phylis Smart; a saxophone solo, Jack Clark, accompanied by Glenn Law; a piano solo, Glenn Law; a reading, Mrs. Wallace Martin; a talk on flowers and seeds, Mrs. Zclma Bcardall; a solo, Mrs. Arva Bone, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Bird; presentation of token of remembrance by Mrs. Hilda Chcr-rington; Chcr-rington; response, Mrs. Clyde and Mrs. Billings; short talk, President Presi-dent Milenda Sumsion. At the close of the program refreshments refresh-ments were served. At a recent meeting in Los Angeles of the Wilshire Relief society so-ciety two foimer musicians of Springville were guest soloists, Mrs. Catherine Dougall Wills entertained en-tertained with gay spring songs and Tcss Hines Hattfield gave a Legends" and Mrs. Ella Reynolds gave a paper on "Utah We Love Thee." James Sumsion also entertained enter-tained with readings. A tasty luncheon was served by the hostess host-ess in conclusion. She was assisted as-sisted by Mrs. Lula Mendenhall arid Mrs. Hazel Roylance. The Alpha Beta club ladies were entertained last Friday afternoon aft-ernoon at the home of Mrs. David Reese in Provo. An especially interesting in-teresting feature of the afternoon's after-noon's program were the papers given by Mrs. A. O. Packard and Mrs. Lillian Huntington on "Lillian "Lil-lian Wold" and Frances Perkins. Mrs F. W. Hoffman conducted a short business meeting and later a tasty luncheon was served to about 17 members present. Among the outstanding events of the week was the meeting and luncheon held by the Home Culture Cul-ture club members on Thursday afternoon. The ladies assembled at the art gallery where an interesting in-teresting and educational talk on the current exhibit was given by J. F. Wingate. Later they went to Valley Tavern where a delicious lunch was served and a short business busi-ness meeting held. President Ada Barron was chosen delegate to attend at-tend the state convention of fed-crated fed-crated womens' clubs in Salt Lake City and Mrs. C. O. Clnudin and |
