Show Mernal Teacher to Serve Two Months ! SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 21 (U.Rl John E. McNaughton, Vernal school teacher whose conviction on a sheep-stealing charge caused a four-year legal fight, must serve two months of his indeterminate indeter-minate sentence, the state board of pardons ruled last night. Decision to parole McNaughton Feb. 15, 1938, was made after an all-day session of the board. McNaughton was convicted in 1933 of altering the brands o sheep. His successive appeals brought the case to the state su-, preme court, which upheld his conviction. Last Thursday he en- i tcred state prison to serve his term. The pardon board acted on his appeal for termination, of sentence sen-tence made when his Inst attempt, to gain a new trial failed. Juae Abe W. Turner sentenced McNaughton. Dallas H. Young, now judge, was district attorney in charge of the prosecution. Attorneys ror Liie crefense charged that 'small town grudges' were responsible for McNaugh-ton's McNaugh-ton's conviction. Cattle and sheep raisers of Vernal supported the sentence as a blow- at "sheep rustling," alleged to have reached serious proportions. The board granted a parole to Robert Rasmussen, 25.
