Show FINLEY COUPLE OBSERVE 6 1ST ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Finley of this city, with the distinctive honor of being- the longest married mar-ried couple in the community, observed their sixty-first wedding anniversary at their home on i Wednesday. The couple are among1 the best known and highly respected citizens of the community, having assisted with numerous projects m the upbuilding of the town. Both have lived here practically all their lives and have witnessed the many changes in the development develop-ment of the community. Mr. Finley, born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, February 4, 1853, came to Springville a3 a small child with his widowed mother who was a convert to the L. D. S. faith. Though of a quiet, reserved re-served disposition, his council and advice was valued highly by men who knew him. He retired several sev-eral years ago from farming in which occupation he became very successful. Mrs. Finley, born here January 27, 1857, also has spent practically practic-ally her entire life in this city and takes special pride in its progressive pro-gressive activities. She has served in numerous enterprises for the betterment of : the. community a few of which are one of the first school teachers here ; a member of the early school board, past president of the Ladies' Republican Republi-can club, and the Springville Red Cross; member of the Utah coun- , ty board D. U. P., a charter member mem-ber of the Springville camp D. U. P., an honorary member of the Home Culture club. She did much to place the pioneer mother monument mon-ument on the city park and was instrumental in placing a marker on the poplar tree, a pioneer landmark land-mark on North Main street. Possibly her crowning achievement achieve-ment is a detailed and authentic account oT events in the settlement settle-ment of Springville from 1850 to the present, which she hopes to complete soon. The couple have eight sons and daughters, John Finley, Wash; Mrs. Rena Roy lance, Mrs. Lydia Palfreyman, Mrs. Eva Hansen, Misses Mae and Bess Finley, Arthur Ar-thur Finley and Mrs. Bert Groes-beck Groes-beck all of Springville. |
