Even if the Navajo gives his right name, he might give any one of several used at different ages. i Some years ago the government made an effort to establish a mental men-tal tag system of identification, but failed. , . Consciously :or unconsciously, the Indians made a joke of it, pooling the tags of families and taking the first one that came to hand when one was needed. They also started gambling games with the tags as stakes. . |
