Show Water Users' Fact - Finding Group Chosen Utah, Wasatch and Summit county irrigation men will support sup-port a fact-finding committee to obtain data for the water rights adjudication case involving Utah lake-Jordan river area water-users, water-users, irrigation company officials of the three counties decided here Wednesday night. Representatives from practically practical-ly every irrigation company in the three counties met with County Commissioners Theron S. Hall and Sylvan Clark to hear from U. S. A. C. representatives on procedure pro-cedure in finding the exact nature of water rights in the county. The committee named for the fact-finding work is composed ot W. J. Cordner of Orem; Henry Erlandson, of Payson; Virgil Peterson, Pet-erson, of Lehi; Frank Wentz, of Provo; I. F. Baum, of Heber; S. S. Cluff, of Midway, and F. A. Peterson of Summit county. Representation The representation is four from Utah, two from Wasatch, and one from Summit county. . Prof. George D. Clyde of U. S. A. C. outlined the history of water rights and told the procedure to adjudicate water rights without recourse to the courts, which, he said, cuts the financial cost involved. in-volved. He stressed the point that facts, not opinions, must be the material sought. He explained that in the Salt Lake county survey funds were obtained from the U. S. A. C. experiment ex-periment station, the division of agriculture and the F. E. R. A. These first two sources might be available for funds for the present pres-ent investigation, he believed. Cost Given Cost of the present contemplated contem-plated survey he estimated at $40,000 to $50,000. Inasmuch as the work is a public function, he believed water users would be justified jus-tified in going to the government for other necessary funds. Eighteen Eigh-teen months to . two years would be needed in which to complete the work, he said. Dr. O. W. Isrealson of the ex-" periment station outlined the results re-sults of the Salt Lake county survey. Data obtained will be used in the pending suit involving water users in the Utah lake-Jordan river drainage district, and enclosing en-closing one of the greatest bodies of defendants ever named in a state action. |
