Show - : Local . Vcrl Whiting, entertained the members of the Viking social unit of the B. Y. U. at his home Sun-jay Sun-jay afternoon. The affair was held in honor of Net Smart, one of their members who leaves soon to fill a mission to England. About 35 boys were present and spent the time with regular unit business and enjoyed a nicely arranged lunch. A large and apparently enthusiastic en-thusiastic group of citizens attended at-tended the Democratic rally at the high school Monday night. J. Emmott Bird was in charge. The work of improving the three grade school houses is" practically prac-tically complete and when formally form-ally inspected and the work approved ap-proved and accepted, will be ready for occupancy. In addition to providing much needed class rooms at the school, a nicely arranged auditorium in which the rarious grades may present plays 1 ind other entertainments has been z provided. Fred Sumsion narrowly missed losing an eye Sunday when shots from an unidentified pheasant hunter struck him just above the eye. Two shots also penetrated his hand as he raised it to protect pro-tect his face. Several hunters reported re-ported being showered with shot. A Kolob stake excursion to the Salt Lake temple is announced for Monday, November 12, with special rates. Mrs. Cecil G. Triplett who has been confined to a local hospital following a major operation is convalescing nicely and will be able to return to the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Hoffman soon. The Springville city council Tuesday visited the culinarj springs at the mouth of Spring Creek canyon to inspect the work done there recently to enlarge the water supply. The men also discussed dis-cussed a plan to take care of any possible seepage into the springs. The water tests pure and the new pipes and coverings at the mouth of the springs adds much to the safety of the city water supply. The organization of the First ward choir is announced with officers selected as follows: William Wil-liam Wainwright, manager; Har-len Har-len Boyer, secretary; Hannah Clyde, leader: Ralph B. Weight, onanist; Pauline Clyde, assist-. nt; David Fullmer, librarian. Nearly forty members are in the group. Emil Ostlund, manager of the fivoll picture show, through the local real estate ofice, ' recently Purchased the Howard Thorpe residence on Fourth South street. The home, a beautiful constructed dwelling, will be completed by Mr. Ostlund including the installation in-stallation of a furnace. Although Mr. Ostlund has done business in our community for some time, the city and Herald welcomes him as a permanent citizen. An autumn frolic will be held in the First ward Friday night as a feature of their season bud-got bud-got card. Under the supervision of Sup-''lintcndent Sup-''lintcndent Harvey Hutchinson of 'he city roads department, a new r,,ad is being constructed from lw vicinity of the John Whiting residence on Bast Center street, smith to the power house and to Ihe city springs. The project includes in-cludes about 1 and a half miles f roadway and Is a much needed imProvement. The Misses Mary Boyer and Vir-S'nia Vir-S'nia Clark of Springville, Utah are now attending the L.
