Show DEVILS MAKE GOOD START IN BASKETBALL Basketball season at Springville high school started off with a bang on Friday, November 22, when the local five conquered a big but slow American Fork team 33 to 21 in the Forker's gymnasium. gymnas-ium. The Springville team composed of Boorman and Weight as forwards; for-wards; Oakley at center and Rowland Row-land and Clark as guards, played what is termed as a slow or conservative con-servative game but good passing and team work more than made up for this deficiency and they emerg- ed from the fracas victorious. Rowland as guard showed some offensive play by slipping in 12 points to lead the scorers. The American Fork team garnered most of their points through long shots finding the Springville defense de-fense too stubborn to get many setups or tail-in-shots. In a preliminary pre-liminary game the Springville Sophs easily took the measure of the American Fork sophs, 24 to 10. - Coach Owen Rowe has lined up several other pre-season games for the Red Devils including, Pleasant Grove, Lehi, Lincoln, B. Y. high school and probably Jordan. These games along with their regular workouts are . expected to make Springville a formidable foe in basketball this winter when league play commences January 11, at Payson. |
