Show fkrfeis Jubilant When Louis Wins NEW YORK, June 23 W.R Throughout Harlem New York's "Little Africa" the cry today was: "Bring on Max Sc'hmeling! Wha's dat German?" Jubilant over Joe Louis' knockout knock-out of James J. Braddock and hysterically proud of their race's first heavyweight boxing champion cham-pion since Jack Johnson, Harlem's thousands celebrated all night, shouting their defiance to the only man to defeat the Detroit negro since he ibecame a heavyweight sensation. The moment the announcement of Louis' victory was made, Harlem Har-lem began to celebrate. An impromptu parade started at the north end of Central park and moved up Seventh Avenue. There were 12 special duty policemen police-men to the block and more than 1 800 all told, but they had little ' to do. The celebrants contented themselves with taunting occasional occas-ional white persons who appeared in the district. "Hello, Braddock," triey would shout. "We-all's having Irish stew." Or: "How you like dat, white man?" Father Divine's disciples were as ecstatic as any. "Peace, it's wonderful," ' they shouted. "Dat Joe, he's wonderful, wonder-ful, too." One group even got out an Ethiopian flag and waved it furiously. furi-ously. As a wild animal, the Arabian camel became extinct long ago. The so-called wild camels which roam about through the desert areas of Central Asia at present are descendants of domesticated animals which have escaped from captivity. i |
