Show 11 PERSONS MEET DEATH IN ACCIDENT OSTEND, Belgium, Nov. 15 (U.R) Eleven persons, including in-cluding Grand Duke George of Hesse; his wife, the grand duchess ; his mother, the dowager do-wager grand duchess, and his two children, Princes Ludwig and Aldenbach, were killed today when a fog-bound trans-channel air liner crashed m flames at the airport here. The royal party, memoers of one of the oldest houses of Germany, Ger-many, whose mercenaries played an important part in the American Ameri-can revolution, was en route to London for the wedding Saturday of Prince Ludwig, brother of the grand duke. Wedding Saturday The elder Prince Ludwig, wh is an attache of the Germany embassy em-bassy in London, was scheduled to be married on Saturday to Miss Margaret Campbell, daughter of Sir Auckland Geddes. He is 29. His nephew Ludwig, who was killed, was six and Aldenbach four. The grand duke was 31. The dowager duchess was 66- As a result of the crash, Prince Ludwig suceeds to the title of hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse on his 29th birthday, Saturday, the day which had been set for his wedding. The plane, enroute to London from Frankfurt, was approaching the Steene airdrome here in a fog when it hit the chimney. The left wing was torn from the fuselage and the plane crashed into the factory grounds. With a terrific explosion, the plane burst into flames. Workers in the factory who rushed to the wreckage were driven back by the fire. When the fire was extinguished extin-guished the iburned bodies of the occupants were recovered. |
