Show ! Local si Sparks from the flue caused fire damaging the residence of La Var Anderson on Third South Third East street, approximately $25. The local fire department responded to the call and kept the fire from spreading to other portions of the building roof. A large group of ward members mem-bers and friends were in attendance atten-dance at the Fourth ward meeting, meet-ing, sponsored by the Elders' quorum Sunday night, when Miss Lola Bradford of Spanish Fork, spoke on her trip to China and Japan and the Laurence club and Fourth ward choir gave a musical musi-cal program. A well baby conference was held at Mapleton last Friday under un-der the direction of local doctors and district public health nurse, Mrs. Clara Sumsion. The conferences confer-ences will be held regularly hereafter here-after at the Mapleton 3chool, at 10 a. m., on the second Thursday Thurs-day of each month. Patrons are reminded of the four one-act plays to be presented pre-sented by the high school dramatic drama-tic art department, under the direction of Miss Bernice Park, Monday, November 29, at 8 p. m., in the Little Theater "of the new art building. A full evening's entertainment is promised. prom-ised. An efficient group of students stu-dents who have worked diligently diligent-ly the past several weeks make up the four fine casts. Miss Lola Bradford, Spanish Fork teacher who made a trip to China and Japan the past summer, will relate her experiences experi-ences in connection with a discussion dis-cussion of habits and customs of people in these two countries, at the regular Sunday night meeting in the Third ward, beginning be-ginning at 7 p. m. Selections from the Laurence club, a musical musi-cal organization of 24 voices, will supplement the program. Miss Ruth Horr, senior at the B. Y. U., Provo, will read a 3-act 3-act play in connection with a social in the senior department of the Second ward M. I. A. next Tuesday evening. All members and those eligible to join the classes are especially urged to be present. Judge Joseph . E. Nelson of Spanish Fork gave a very comprehensive com-prehensive talk on conditions of the world today, in an Armistice day program conducted by the Kiwanis last Thursday evening. The Legion auxiliary chorus, directed di-rected by Guy Brown, furnished music and a number of Legionnaires Legion-naires attended as special guests of the club. H. T. Reynolds acted as toastmaster. The club meeting tonight, will feature a program on "Safety on the Highway," with W. R. Eddington acting as toastmaster. Ladies of the Community church are conducting a food and novelty sale at Wood's store, Saturday forenoon and afternoon. after-noon. All are invited to attend. A number of relatives went to Salt Lake City Wednesday, to attend funeral services for Lester A. Peterson, 52. who died in that city Sunday. He was born in Springville, a son of August and Emmie William Peterson. His widow. Mrs. Mamie Lambert Peterson and five sons and daughters survive, as do four sisters, one of whom, Mrs. Myrtle Bird, lives at Mapleton. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery. Wednesday afternoon. Next Sunday night, the Second Sec-ond ward M. I. A. senior class will present an outstanding program pro-gram to which all ward members and friends are invited to attend. at-tend. The theme will be carried out on Thanksgiving, with Dr. L. E. Otteson to give the main talk.. Mrs. E. S. Groesbeck will give a retold story, and Elaine Brockbank, a musical reading. Special music will also be given by a recently organized ladies' chorus of 30 voices, directed by Carl Nelson, and John Hilgen-dorf. Hilgen-dorf. instructor in the Provo high school, will entertain with special violin music. |
