Show Freight Hike on Fruit Suspended WASHINGTON, June 2S (U.R) The Interstate commerce commission com-mission revealed today it has suspended, sus-pended, pending investigation, proposed pro-posed freight rate increases for fruits and vegetables shipped from Pacific coast and intermountam points to destinations in the United , States and Canada. The commission said the action was taken in response to protests pro-tests from farm organizations and regulatory agencies of Arizona, Ari-zona, California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington. The proposed increases were in addition to the five per cent increase previously authorized for agricultural products.- Rates on apples from the Pacific northwest to New York, per hundredweight, would have been increased from 1.31 to $1.40: root vegetables from the Pacific Coast to Chicago, SI. 16 to Sl-25; and green vegetables, from the Pacific coasi to Chicago SI. 34 to $1.53. : |
