CHICAGO, 111., Dec. 1 'Utah county's 4-H club mem-, mem-, bers, members of the Manila girls' club, are having a wonderful wonder-ful time at the national club congress now in session here, i The Utahns arrived in Chicago Sunday morning, and everv tet and famous Sunday evening club choir. Rev. Harold C. Phillips Phil-lips of the First Baptist church, Cleveland, Ohio, was the speaker. Monday morning we were taken on a tour of the livestock exhibits, ex-hibits, and were the guest? of the , Sears-Roebuck company at noon ' dinner at the Stevens hotel. minute since that time has been, filled with new and thrilling ex- periences. Our headquarters are at the Harrison hotel. Everything to make our stay pleasant is being be-ing arranged by those in charge of the congress. Fourteen delegates are included in our party, including, in addi-, tion to myself, D. P. Murray, state leader, six club members of the Manila Home Science club: Helen Warnick, Erma Atwood, Elaine Pack, Afton Pack, Beth Wadley and Margaret Wadley. Also, June Carlisle, .Salt Lake county, style review; Virginia Smith, Salt Lake county, Kerr canning; Frenna Anderson, An-derson, Wasatch county, Montgomery Mont-gomery Ward; Dee Clayburn, , Wasatch county, outstanding 1 dairy; Jay Taylor, Rich county, boys' social progress; Arlen Niel-son, Niel-son, Piute county, sheep. There are 44 states represented, four Canadian provinces, and about 1400 members. All 4-H club delegates dele-gates are wearing a green and white woolen cap, and as an added feature, the Utah delegates have a "Utah" arm band. The train trip was made more interesting by games brought by Mr. Murray, and we enjoyed visits with, delegates from Oregon and Idaho. At Laramie, we met Mr. Marsden, .Wyoming state club leader, who judged the social progress prog-ress contest. He congratulated us on our fine reports. The social progress contest has attracted a great deal of interest, and we are thrilled with the attention we receive re-ceive because of being section winners. win-ners. Today, we met Miss Martha E. Leighton of the University of Vermont, who has charge of the radio publicity, and other section winners. After registering Sunday morning, morn-ing, we enjoyed a 50-mile , coach tour of the city of Chicago, covering cover-ing all important and interesting points such as the loop, Lincoln park, the Chetto, Chinatown, University Uni-versity of Chicago, Washington park, etc. The girls declare they have never seen so many darkies in their lives. They think the University chapel is most inspiring, inspir-ing, and the "Gold Coast," -quite a sight. We would like to go Christmas shopping in the Jewish section. We enjoyed Sunday evening services in Orchestra hall, chairman chair-man Edward Fess Wilson in charge. Music was furnished by the Iowa band, and the 4-H quar- |
