Show County Employes Donate . Two Per Cent To Relief . ( County Salaries Shown To Be From 50 to 66 Percent of Maximum. All Utah county employes from the commissioners down to the office of-fice deputies will contribute two per cent of their salaries for the benefit of unemployment relief work, according to J. W. Gillman, chairman of the commission. Under the plan as proposed Tuesday, Tues-day, all principals and deputies will sign an- agreement authorizing County Auditor Ammon Tuttle to make the two per cent deduction lyeinning with the December pay-; pay-; roll. The total amount figured on a payroll of $6,000 is about $120., The money will be forwarded to the relief commtitees of the various va-rious towns of the county where the employes maintain their homes, according to Air. Gillman. Although requests lor salary cuts have been made by two delega-;ions delega-;ions that have met with the commissioners, com-missioners, final decision has been deferred until the passage of the budget ordinance expected next week. ic was pointed out by Mr. Gill-Tian Gill-Tian Tuesday that the salaries of ill elective county officers are ixed by the constitution and the t 'to lav. The legislature at the 1921 session fixed the maximum alines for the counties of the state. "Although Utah county is a county of the first class, the commission com-mission has never placed local salaries to a point higher than CO percent of the maximum allowed by the statutes," said Mr. Gillman. A comparison between the salaries sal-aries which could be fixed in Utah county, according to state law and the actual salaries being paid hows that the commissioners and the sheriff are paid only 57 percent of the maximum; asstssor, 66 2-3 percent; clerk, 56 percent; record er, surveyor and auditor, 60 percent; per-cent; treasurer, 54 percent, and attorney, 52 percent. |
